They added nothing to the show but filler and eye candy (and bad filler and eye candy at that). I could deal with Judy McCoy, as she fit in OK with the original cast, but, the writing was quickly going down hill. Vickie was obviously maturing as a young woman so some of the episodes were a bit awkward.

In italy it would show on late afternoon, you just turn on your TV and enjoy half an hour of carefree spare time without minding about continuity, follow-ups, arcs, missing episodes… The “will it rock or will it suck?” suspense would add to the mix. Fantasy Island was alike, in this way.

I second Fraser about the final season inquiry.
