There's nothing wrong or shitty with Ed's take, and I'm not a homophobic person and don't see an issue with gays existing and having the rights they deserve. What I took from this interview is that Ed found both women on a wedding aisle wearing Tux's funny, and why not? The standard traditional wedding that we see pretty much 100% of the time is that of a man and a woman, so for a person that is not used to seeing two women getting married in Tux's, it's funny, just like it would be if we see two men getting married in wedding dresses funny. Finding something funny does not mean you're intolerant or a bigot, it means it struck a funny bone. Then, when he said she's not very smart, he was right... imagine you're on a hit show for a few years and you start feuding with the stars of the show, and you're not a star. Is that smart? No! Why would I start unnecessary beef and cause a strain between me and the stars of the show? It doesn't make any sense, it can only jeopardize your job! This is what he's saying, that from his perspective she's not being smart, and it's absolutely true, there's nothing arrogant or shitty about it, it's the reality. If you see your son causing strife with the star on a hit show he's on, you're going to ask your son what the hell is he doing, why is stirring trouble with the star? "Do you want to lose your job?" is going to be the question you ask your son! Ed was absolutely right in stating this, and he'd be right to if someone's being shitty for no reason and causing issues on your hit show. Now whether it's true that she was being shitty or if it was really him is anyone's guess and only those two would know the truth, but based on what he said, there's nothing wrong with his take.

That's such a silly position, as I doubt even Ed O'Neill would defend his shitty take if you asked him about it today. Some people take longer to get there, and it clearly took O'Neill a bit too long to get there, but I'm sure a decade later, he's gotten there by now.

You might take a bit longer to get there, Fred, and it might not happen in this lifetime, which would be a shame.

Ed took some of the blame. Amanda so far has taken none.

That doesn’t really make him look bad.

From what I understood the main problem was that after Amanda came out, she tried rolling that over into the Marcy character … who was not gay.

The way Ed express himself about Amanda is similar to the way I imagine Al Bundy would have. As part of the script it might even be funny, but not in real life. Seems like Ed got kind of stuck in his character even after that many years. Even though I adore the way Ed portraid Al Bundy (and the way Amanda portaid Marcy) it seems like the success got to his head. But at least I suppose he was honest, but rude.
