Today, I want to know what you think was the oddest Post-Oscar win “cash-in” job by an actor?
Pop Culture Theme Time is a feature where I put a question to you to see what you think about a particular theme. I might later revisit the theme for a future Drawing Crazy Patterns or Top Five.
A standard thing in Hollywood is when a character actor or actress wins their first Academy Award, suddenly the big budget movies tend to find a role for them, as, well, why not just add the actor who just won an Oscar, right?
The actor is usually like, “Well, I got my Oscar, now let me get PAID,” especially if the movie was an indie picture.
Tommy Lee Jones followed up his Fugitive win with Batman Forever. Gene Hackman followed up The French Connection with The Poseidon Adventure.
So who do you think was the oddest example of this phenomenon?
I’m going with Brenda Fricker getting Home Alone 2: Lost in New York following her Oscar for My Left Foot.
She’s just such a bizarre piece of casting in Home Alone 2 “Oh, yeah, she’s, uh, a pigeon lady! Yeah, that’s the ticket!”
Okay, that’s my pick! What’s yours?
And feel free to suggest future Pop Culture Theme Time topics to me at brian@poprefs.com!

How about Halle Berry? It took about 2-3 years after her Oscar win for 2001’s “MONSTER’S BALL,” but “CATWOMAN” was so bad that it earned her a Razzie — which she accepted in person (where she admitted WB “[made her] do this god awful piece of **** movie”).
I don’t know what her salary was for “CATWOMAN,” but I doubt it was for scale. At least I hope not.
