Today, as part of a series of Christmas-themed Pop Culture Theme Times this month, I want to know what is your all-time favorite Christmas TV animated special.
Pop Culture Theme Time is a feature where I put a question to you to see what you think about a particular theme. I might later revisit the theme for a future Drawing Crazy Patterns or Top Five.
We all have our favorite Christmas TV animated special, but when it comes time to pick an all-time favorite, people will always be, like, “Well, I like A, B and C.” Not this time! I want a SINGLE answer! Just one! I want to know what your all-time favorite Christmas TV animated special. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! No honorable mentions! Just tell me your outright favorite!
For me, I’m going with the classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I think the introduction of the Island of Misfit Toys concept just makes the whole thing so much more layered than a traditional Christmas special without having an over-the-top religious message, either. Just a general, “Hey, be cool to people, everybody.”
And the songs are excellent!
So that’s my pick.
How about you?
And feel free to suggest future Pop Culture Theme Time topics to me at brian@poprefs.com!
How the Grinch stole Christmas.
with Tony the Tiger and Dracula.
“HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS” from 1966, without hesitation.
The Grinch because Chuck Jones. Plus Max reminds me of Sadie, a dog I loved. And Cindy Lou Who is a dead ringer for my beloved niece when she was a girl. Good Christmas message without preachiness or leaving anyone out.
to be different and because it wasvhilarious, Pinky and the brain christmas special.
It is, and ever shall remain, A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Rudolph has been my favorite since I was a kid, though there are plenty of others I love and watch every year.
With a youngin the Frozen Christmas Special (Olaf’s Frozen Adventure) is pretty well done.
Put me in the Grinch camp.
I’m going with an outlier.,,,the night before christmas
Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol. Classic story, great songs, and the added advantage of being rarely shown back in the day.
Shaun the Sheep: the Flight before Christmas
The Grinch. For Rankin-Bass, their last special, “Life and Adventures of Santa Claus,” is wonderful.
