Today, I want to know which TV character you think had the most egregious absence in the series finale of a TV series.
Pop Culture Theme Time is a feature where I put a question to you to see what you think about a particular theme. I might later revisit the theme for a future Drawing Crazy Patterns or Top Five.
Sam Fender recently released the music video for his new song, “People Watching,” and it stars the brilliant Irish actor, Andrew Scott, as a man sort of lost in the wake of the loss of his mother, who he had traveled to see before she died. Scott had lost his own mother just last year, and noted about the song:
Sam’s masterpiece of a song has become a true friend to me. Working on it was truly cathartic, and I’ll always be grateful to Sam for his extraordinary talent, and for the other artists who made this film, and of course to my mum, who I will hold in my heart til the day I die.
Fender wrote the song about a close friend of his, Annie Orwin, who died in 2023 that Fender described as a “surrogate mother.” The song is about the walks to and from the palliative care home he would visit her in towards the end of her life.
Check out Andrew Scott absolutely giving his ALL to the man dealing with the death of his mother in this video…
It’s such amazing acting that I can’t imagine seeing a better acting performance in a music video, so he’s MY pick, but I was wondering what you folks think – what’s the greatest acting performance that you’ve seen in a music video?
And feel free to suggest future Pop Culture Theme Time topics to me at brian@poprefs.com!
It’s comedic acting, but Spike Jonze’s embodiment of the pretentious dance troupe leader always seemed like a great bit of acting. The moment when the guy turned off the CD player would have been a good place to break character, but he didn’t.
Probably not the best performance overall, but Brad Dourif in Toto’s Stranger in Town kinda impressed me.
