Today, we look at which three songs from deep in Bob Dylan’s catalog that Timothee Chalamet decided to perform on Saturday Night Live.

In the latest episode of Saturday Night Live, Timothee Chalamet was the musical guest as well as the host, and in honor of his newly Oscar-nominated performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, Chalamet performed as the musical guest in the episode, doing three Bob Dylan songs that were NOT on the soundtrack to A Complete Unknown.
The first song was “Outlaw Blues,” which was one of the first “electric” songs that Bob Dylan recorded in his career, on his fifth studio album, Bringing it All Back Home…
I’ve always felt that this simple blues-y rocker should be covered more, as Dylan’s version isn’t particularly famous, and it’s a catchy song, so I was pleased to see Chalamet pick it. He was likely influenced by Jack White’s cover of the song…
Next, Chalamet went REALLY obscure with “Three Angels,” from Dylan’s 1970 album, New Morning….
“Three Angels” was one of a handful of songs that Dylan had written for a musical that didn’t go anywhere, so he included the songs on the album. It’s basically a piece of spoken word poetry.
Finally, Chalamet picked one of my all-time favorite Dylan songs, “Tomorrow is a Long Time,” a sweet song that Dylan never “officially” recorded, only including a live performance of the song from early in 1963 on the second volume of Dylan’s Greatest Hits….
Chalamet picked three interesting tunes for his performance. As a Dylan fan, I really had to give it up to him for his picks.
