Today, I talk about Haley Lu Richardson deserving some sort of award for her riff about how much she masturbated to Heated Rivalry while promoting her new series, Ponies.
This is a feature called “The Way We Talk,” about notable talk show appearances.
I know this is a media junket instead of a talk show, but whatever, it’s close enough.
Haley Lu Richardson and Emilia Clarke did an extensive interview with Entertainment Tonight to discuss their new TV series, Ponies (about two women whose CIA agent husbands are murdered, and so they seek out the truth of why their husbands were killed in 1970s Moscow where they are secretaries at the American embassy).
In the interview, at one point, they got on a riff about the hot new TV series, Heated Rivalry, which Clarke had not yet seen at the time, but Richardson had been telling her how sexy the show was (about two rival hockey players who fall in love and begin a torrid secret sexual affair). Richardson joked “Make sure everything is charged” (she then amusingly clarified, “I’m referring to vibrators.”).
Clarke laughed, and then joked about something else Richardson had said to her, but then added that she wouldn’t share what Richardson had told her on TV. Richardson, though, like the MVP that she is, offered it up herself. “What did I say? Oh, that my clitoris still hurts?”
They both break down laughing, and then Richardson adds, “It does still to this day. A week later.”
That’s both hilarious and really charming how open Richardson was about the Heated Rivalry effect. Few actors would ever be so open about something like that.
