Today, we look at when (or if) you folks believe that Silicon Valley “jumped the shark.”
This is “Just Can’t Jump It,” a feature where we examine shows that launched in 2006 or later and whether they “jumped the shark.” Jumped the shark means that the show had a specific point in time where, in retrospect, you realize that show was going downhill from there. Not every show DOES jump the shark. Some shows just remain good all the way through. And some shows are terrible all the way through. What we’re looking for are moments where a show that you otherwise enjoyed hit a point where it took a noticeable nose dive after that time and if so, what moment was that?
Silicon Valley was a sitcom about a group of programmers led by awkward genius Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch) who form a start-up company, Pied Piper, and try to take on the giants of the real life Silicon Valley to try to make it big.
So first…DID IT JUMP THE SHARK? I think so.
WHEN DID IT JUMP THE SHARK The joke about the series was that it repeated the same process every season. They almost fail, but wait, they didn’t fail, they have another shot and they’re still on target to maybe eventually succeed! The problem was that at the end of Season 5, they DID succeed…and yet there was one more season after that. Season 6 was a bit all over the place and the show just wasn’t the same anymore. Still an okay season, but I think it jumped.
