  1. I think they chose Magic Johnson because he is the worldwide most popular basketball player ever period, no matter his role or capabilities, then they had to fit him into the ad setup logic. Probably, if the two guys were competing for the last can by throwing paper balls into a trash bin, it would have made more (sport) sense, but the ad would have been way more boring.
